Our lives are filled with conflicts and competition for control. For dominance and prominence. Yet, given enough time many of our victories may come to feel hollow. We may even find that what we sacrificed to win was worth so much more than what we won. One frequent reminder we find is to not sacrifice what will last for what will fade away.

What arguments have you been a part of previous that felt so important at the time, but now feels trivial? Describe a success in which you lost more than you gained.
How are the expressions and demonstrations of faith different from the presence of faith? How does the presence of faith shape an individual’s or a church’s response to uncertain circumstances?
How are statements of hope different from the presence of hope? How can our hopeful words mask or underscore our fear and hopelessness?
How are appeals to love and claims of loving intent different from being loving? How have churches or even our church loved without loving?
