The former slaves of Egypt have been liberated and now find themselves in the wilderness. Where there is opportunity there is also uncertainty including a crisis of identity. “Who are we apart from Egypt?”

Genesis serves in part as the prequel to the Exodus helping to answer that question. In essence, “the god who liberated us is the same one who created all we know, the one who made covenants with Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob/Israel, and is making a new covenant with us today.”
